America Recycles Day – November 15th

by kfeichtner on October 28, 2010

Don’t forget that America Recycles Day is on November 15th.   It is a great opportunity to take part in a national event that promotes education in recycling.

Cities and communities across the United States are offering multiple recycling events that, in many cases, are free.  So, gather up all your old electronic equipment, rechargeable batteries, old phones, paper and even appliances and pledge to recycle them today.  Here is a handy tool to help you find recycling events in your area.

America really is making big strides in improving our environment.  Here is an interesting statistic related to how recycling can benefit us.

In 2007, the amount of energy saved from recycling aluminum and steel cans, plastic PET and glass containers, newsprint and corrugated packaging was equivalent to:

  • The amount of electricity consumed by 17.8 million Americans in one year.
  • 29 percent of nuclear electricity generation in the U.S. in one year.
  • 7.9 percent of U.S. electricity generation from fossil fuels in one year.
  • 11 percent of the energy produced by coal-fired power plants in the United States
  • The energy supplied from 2.7 percent of imported barrels of crude oil into the United States
  • The amount of gasoline used in almost 11 million passenger automobiles in one year.

Learning small, simple, daily choices and actions can make a huge difference. Visit the the official America Recycle’s website to learn more
