What is a Green Data Center?

One of the questions that we hear most often is “What is a Green Data Center?”.   Here is our list of ways we are green.  Our goal is to be one of the greenest data centers AND cost less.
This is a partial list, but includes the biggest savers.  For a full list, read our latest blog post.

Power: We are powered through 100% renewable energy and we are 40% more energy efficient that traditional data centers.

Cooling: Our cooling system runs 90% more energy efficiently than standard data center CRAC units.  We also have developed a hot-aisle/cold-aisle standardization across the data center to prevent hot and cold air from mixing.  In average data centers, a server requires the same amount of energy wattage to cool as it does to power a server.  However, our cooling system and design allow us to operate at approximately 1 watt for server power and 0.2 watts for cooling.

Cloud Computing/Virtualization:  By moving even one server to our cloud servers, we take 4 tons of CO2 emissions out of the air and save up to 700 kWh per month in energy costs (about $700) each year. This also allows us to have a smaller than average facility, since less space is required to house, power and cool the cloud infrastructure.

From our power and cooling to even our office practices and landscaping choices our goal is to be as environmentally friendly as possible, while continuing to deliver high performance results to our customers.  We invite you to learn more about our green data center or schedule a visit for a tour.
