How do I assign a public IP to my server?
If you are using the internal NAT-Routed network connection on your VM, you will need to assign a public IP with a One-To-One NAT rule in order for it to access the internet. To do so, you want to enter the network configuration by going to the Administration tab and clicking on Networks on the left. Right-click on the network labeled “Routed” under the Type field and click “Configure Services”. Under the NAT Mapping tab you will be able to create NAT rules to give your machine public access.
How do I manage firewall access to my VMs?
On a NAT-routed network, all incoming traffic is disabled by default and you will need to create rules for the traffic. To do so, enter the network configuration by going to the Administration tab and clicking on Networks on the left. Right-click on the network labeled “Routed” under the Type field and click “Configure Services”. On the Firewall tab you will be able to create inbound and outbound rules to your VMs. Be sure to use the internal IP of your machine for the destination address and not the public IP.
I’m having problems logging into my cloud environment.
Review the URL to ensure that your organization name is displayed at the end of the address. i.e. https://mycloud.greenhousedata.com/cloud/org/vandelay-industries
If you are still having issues logging in, please send in an email to support@greenhousedata.com and we’ll be happy to assist you.
What browsers can I use to manage my cloud?
vCloud requires either Internet Explorer 7+ or later or Firefox 3.5+. For full site functionality, including the pop-out console and media upload utility, you will also need Adobe Flash 10.2+ JRE 1.6.0 update 10+. For more details see: https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2005819
How do I upload media or use your public media?
If you don’t already have a catalog created, you’ll need to do so by going to the Catalogs tab of your cloud environment and clicking the green plus sign to launch the New Catalog wizard.
To upload your own media to your catalog, go to the Catalogs tab of your cloud and on the left-hand menu click “My Organization’s Catalog”. On the right-hand view you will see two tabs named “vApp Templates” and “Media”. Each of these tabs will have an Upload button which looks like a hard drive with a green up arrow, as well as a button to track the progress of your upload.
If you’d like to use any of the media that has already been uploaded to the public catalog, you’ll first have to copy it to your local catalog. On the left-hand menu of the Catalogs view, click on Public Catalogs. Click on the Media tab on the right to display the available media, then right-click on your selection and choose “Copy to catalog”.
The VM console won’t release my mouse and keyboard.
You can release your keyboard and mouse by pressing CTRL + ALT on your keyboard.
How do I install VMware Tools on my new machine?
VMware Tools is the software that provides drivers for the virtual hardware underneath your virtual machine. We highly recommend that you install these tools for the best performance. Tools can be installed by right-clicking on your VM and choosing “Install VMware Tools” from the context menu. The installation is fully automated. When installation has finished, you should see the VMware Tools version underneath the General Properties page of your VM settings.
Guest customization is a script that is run against the VM whenever it is deployed from a template. Among other things, customization will randomize the administrator or root password, change the hostname, and assign a new MAC address, all while retaining your operating system data and configuration. This allows you to deploy multiple copies of the same template without anything clashing on your network.
What is the password of my newly deployed template?
If your machine was created from a template, Guest Customization likely changed your administrator or root password. You can view the new randomized password by right-clicking on the VM > clicking Properties > and clicking the Guest OS Customization tab. Your password will be listed under the Password Reset section.
I’m getting an error that says I’ve exceed my storage quota, I thought I had unlimited storage?
As a Pay-As-You-Go model customer you are entitled to theoretically unlimited storage. However, we are still required to set storage limits on individual organizations so one customer cannot deploy a huge amount of VMs at one time and fill up our provisioned datastores before we have time to react. If you need your storage increased, just send an email into support@greenhousedata.com and we’ll be happy to increase your limits.
