Facebook now has over 1 billion monthly users worldwide. That number is, quite simply, astonishing. Roughly 1/7th of the entire world's population is on a single website on a regular basis. Pretty crazy! Facebook also happens to be the Internet's largest storehouse of photos, with over 100 petrabytes of information for that alone. Believe it or not, there are over 300 million photo uploads every single day on Facebook. I can hardly contemplate those numbers. Fortunately for us, the folks who run the company's data centers can, and have to. Take a look at the very interesting video below about how Facebook manages this type of workload.
