Sergio Gonzalez, Managed Services Senior Engineer for Green House Data

Let's dive back into our ongoing blog series Get to Know Green House Data, where we shine a light on the employees across our nationwide offices and data centers. When we talk about Hear from a Human Support, these are the engineers, help desk staff, and data center technicians keeping the pulse of your IT infrastructure going strong.

This week, we talk to Managed Services Senior Engineer Sergio Gonzalez.

Which office do you work in? Are you originally from the area?

Cheyenne, WY. I was born and raised in Cheyenne.

What are your favorite things to do in Cheyenne?

Leave it! My fiancée and I tend to spend most of our free time in Fort Collins, CO.

How long have you been in the technology industry?

I started my career in IT at 16 when I took my first job for the Laramie County School District #1 as a Computer Technician. After the school district, I went to work for a small ISP here in Cheyenne, Lonetree.com. I was the senior technician there for 6 years, until I left to be a Network Administrator for Bresnan Communications (now Charter). I actually racked and cabled Charter’s VoIP system for Cheyenne, WY; Laramie, WY; Sterling, CO; and Fort Morgan CO.

After 2 years at Charter, I went to work at the Supreme Court of Wyoming. I was hired as the District Court Systems and Network Manager where I stayed from 2007 - 2015. There I did everything from Tier 1 to Tier 3.

I joined the Green House Data team on September 1st of 2015.

How did you first get interested in I.T.?

I got interested in computers after getting my first one at 15 years old. (It was a Compaq with an AMD 133Mhz and a whole 42MB of RAM.) I promptly corrupted the Windows 95 install and had to learn to fix it before my parents found out. Two years later I took my first job at the Department of Technology at the school district.

What are some of your favorite work projects? Least favorite?

I can’t say that I have a favorite work project. I just really enjoy troubleshooting, fixing things, and building environments.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Running, biking, hiking, camping, snowboarding, cooking, and my favorite, eating.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee first! Then maybe tea.

Star Wars or Star Trek?

As long as it’s Sci-Fi, it’s for me, so both.

What do you like about working at Green House Data?

I’ve really enjoyed all the different services and technologies that Green House Data provides and maintains. I also like the daily challenge of new problems to tackle. I really enjoy being surrounded by so much talent and I’m proud to be a member of such a great team.
