Welcome back to our blog series Get to Know Green House Data. Every couple weeks we'll introduce another Green House Data staff member with a quick interview. It's a great chance to discover what makes the staff that powers your IT infrastructure tick.
This week, meet Jessica Hanson, the Billing Administrator & Purchaser here at Green House Data.
I grew up in Walden, CO from age 10 until age 18. Then my husband and I moved to Greeley, CO and eventually to Cheyenne, WY for work reasons. With both of us being raised in the country, we decided we wanted to move out of town, which took us to Kimball, NE. For seven years we commuted to and from Cheyenne for work. This is what eventually brought us back to Cheyenne three years ago.
I enjoy walking through downtown and stopping in all of the shops that interest me. It’s also very relaxing to be able to escape the kids and go to dinner and a movie with my husband when he has time off from work.
I began working in accounting and bookkeeping originally in junior high. My first summer job was working for Kyle Fliniau, the town attorney and council man in Walden, CO. I eventually went to school and earned my degree in Paralegal studies. But I continued to work in accounting fields. I strayed for several years when I went back to school to be an LPN. After five years as a nurse, I decided to go back to college and earn my degree in accounting.
I enjoy most projects that are given to me, from creating spreadsheets and analyzing data to creating amortization schedules and so on. I enjoy being able to step away from the remedial tasks of posting invoices and receiving payments and being able to dive into more projects that are less day to day functions of accounting.
I enjoy any time that I can spend with my family. Whether we are watching one of our sons’ football games or wrestling, horseback riding, or camping. We also spend quite a bit of time at the race track. My husband and two of our sons race super stocks and warriors on ¼ mile asphalt tracks.
With 9 children, age 14 months to 17, I would love to enjoy three days at a resort enjoying spa treatments. I certainly could use a rest for sure. But honestly, I love time with my kids and husband. Three days with my family, campfires, fishing, horseback riding, and enjoying nature is better for my soul. My family is my life, and their happiness and enjoyment means everything to me!
I remember when I was a little girl and I would go to work with my dad, my mom would toast me a bagel, spread onion cream cheese on it, and wrap it in a paper towel to send with me. Dad usually had strawberry cream cheese on his. We would get in the pickup and eat our bagels on the way to work. To this day, I love bagels because of those early mornings with my dad. So, definitely a bagel over a donut, any day
Often times employers will tell you that they are family oriented to arouse you[r interest] to come work for them. From my very first interview, I was asked what mattered the most to me. Well, at that time, I was a wife and mother to four boys. That was what was most important to me. Being able to attend football games and wrestling matches, or parent teacher conferences and Boy Scout meetings, is what mattered to me. I needed to be able to still be a mom and wife, yet be able to have success in my career as well.
Green House Data has always made that possible! Now as a mother to nine kids, four of my own and five foster children, my heart is with my kids! Green House Data understands that I need to be at parent teacher conferences, football games, counseling appointments, court dates, and MDT meetings. With the added kids, I am able to come to work and give my all to my position and duties, but still have flexibility. This has allowed me to be happy in my position and allow my work to never suffer because I am happy at home and at work. That has made me successful in my position, allowed me to assist in many areas, and still have the energy to be great at my job and at home.
